Day 2 - Touring Trier, Germany

Nathan (nephew) met us at the Frankfurt Hahn airport in Germany last night and took us to his home.  This morning we slept in, then pushed Noah and Naomi around the village of Spangdahlem in a stroller.

Spangdahlem has a HOLLYWOOD-style sign on a hill.  You can see it in the photo off in the distance, above my head.  The church is behind our house and tells time every 15 minutes by ringing bells all day and night.
In the afternoon Jenna took us to Trier, the oldest city in Germany.  We strolled through the open-air market and took a trolley tour.  We walked around the ancient Roman city gates surrounded by hundreds of plastic, red statues of Karl Marx, since this is his birthplace and he just turned 195.

We also saw the house Marx was born in, and possibly the oldest Cathedral in the world, built around 300 AD.
Trier Cathedral of St. Peter
It houses Jesus' tunic and Saint Helen's skull and the bones of Saint Materni.  Here's Noah in front of the baptismal font:
As you can see, it is large enough for full immersion.
An amazing thing in the cathedral is a plaque, actually three, with the names of every bishop of the church from 250 AD to the present.  Wow, it's hard to believe they know the names of every one of them.
