Our Europe & Israel vacation of a lifetime is over, we have gathered our thoughts, and decided to answer the question we hear most frequently:
What was the best part?
Although the answer is complex since many parts were the best in different ways, we have settled on a list of our favorite parts of our trip.
1. Touring a Greek island on a scooter and swimming in the Aegean. (Most romantic)
2. The Garden Tomb in Jerusalem. (Most spiritual)
3. Genealogy experiences in Germany and Switzerland. (Most miraculous)
4. Rome & Vatican City: Colosseum, Pantheon, St. Peter's Basilica, Catacombs, Forum, etc. (Most awe inspiring)
5. Old Jerusalem: Wailing Wall, historic churches, gates, walls, streets. (Most historic)
6. Nazareth Village tour. (Fun and educational)
7. Athens: Parthenon, Forum, Mars Hill, other ruins. (Really old and amazing)
8. Bruges, Belgium. (Medieval town with a hundred chocolate shops)
9. Leaning tower of Pisa. (Huge and shocking every time you look at it)
10. Hezekiah's Tunnel in The City of David. (Built before King David. Don't even consider wading through this cramped tunnel for 1/2 km if you get claustrophobic.)
11. Taxi through a Palestinian refugee camp and propaganda video. (Scariest)
12. BYU Center in Jerusalem. (Looking over old Jerusalem during church)
13. Concert in Vienna, Austria. (Most beautiful music.)
14. Baths in Budapest. (Most relaxing)
15. Visiting the Page family in Germany. (Meeting relatives)
Other contenders: Brunelleschi's Dome in Florence, Pompeii, Golden Lane in Prague, Old Town Square in Prague, Book of Kells in Dublin, Burg Eltz Castle in Germany, other castles & churches, Amsterdam canal tour, St. Mark's in Venice, Trinity College Library in Dublin
Cool but non-contenders: Masada, Dead Sea, St. Patrick's Cathedral & other historic sites in Dublin, Garden of Gethsemane sites, Prague Castle, St. Wenceslas Square in Prague, Budapest historic buildings, canals of Venice, other churches and museums in Florence, Hofburg Palace in Vienna
