Sunday May 26 to Monday May 27, 2013
Sunday we attended church at the Bitburg Ward (English speaking) and got to hear Nathan and Jenna both give great talks. We asked around and met Daniel Williams, who speaks excellent German and English and made a phone call for us to set up a meeting with Fritz Hermes, the genealogist. We will meet him tomorrow at noon.
Monday, today, we visited the Himmerod Abbey, a monastery dating to 1134, although it was ruined and rebuilt. The church appeared to have a large number of relics in reliquaries, although we couldn't read the Latin writing or any names, except maybe one pope. Some looked like thimble-sized bone fragments.

Then we toured the Reichsburg Cochem (Cochem Imperial Castle). The castle was built before 1130, destroyed by Louis IV, then rebuilt after 1868, so it is only about 100 years old, but it is beautiful and has turrets, secret doors and lots of suits of armor.

On the way home we stopped for gas and found a pinhole leak in the upper radiator hose of Nathan's Ford Escort. Unfortunately, it was too late to buy car parts, so we will have to make a quick repair tomorrow to keep our appointment with Fritz.
